St. Philip's Episcopal
Outreach Ministry

'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:40

‘Growing Faith that impacts the world for Christ’ is the mission statement of St. Philip’s. One does not have to travel to a foreign country to fulfill this mission. There are numerous opportunities in our local community to fulfill God’s call to love one another through service. There are volunteer opportunities for both the young and old!

St. Philip’s partners with Frisco Family Services (FFS) to assist them in many ways. FFS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide social services to individuals and families in need and assist them in becoming productive members of the Frisco community.

Watch the weekly bulletin for those outreach events.

Stock-a-Shelf

Contact person: - 469-287-2598

St. Philip’s is committed to bringing a monthly supply of pasta and pasta sauce to Frisco Family Services to replenish their supplies. Pasta and pasta sauce is delivered to FFS once a month. Church members are encouraged to bring donations on a monthly basis and assistance is also needed to deliver the donations to the food pantry on the first Sunday of each month.

Fill the Truck

Contact person: - 972-668-1805
or - 972-712-9180

In addition to the ongoing Stock-the-Shelf program, St. Philip’s helps keep the FFS food pantry shelves stocked by having an annual “Fill the Truck” event. Church members are encouraged to bring donations of needed items to fill the bed of a pickup truck. This is usually done in conjunction with one of the church picnics.

Apple Tree

Contact person: - 972-951-4119
and - 972-294-1715

The Apple Tree program helps kids in our community get ready to go back to school. In conjunction with FFS, we provide school supplies as well as school clothing items to children in need. During the month of July, there is an “Apple Tree” with apples listing supplies and/or clothing that are needed. Participants simply pick an apple, purchase the supplies, and return them to church.

Thanksgiving Boxes

Contact person: - 972-492-4064

Frisco Family Service’s Thanksgiving program provides low-income families, families in crisis, and senior citizens with a special Thanksgiving meal package. The traditional foods that make the holiday special are typically not available from the food pantry and are a rare treat for these families. St. Philip’s participates by collecting and packaging a predetermined list of items and transporting them to FFS for delivery to families prior to Thanksgiving.

Angel Tree

Contact person: - 972-731-5078
and - 469-371-7330

Christmas is a time when the true spirit of giving is very evident in the community. At St. Philip’s, we have “Angel Trees” in late November. Members pick up an angel from the tree, purchase a gift for their angel, and bring the unwrapped gift back to church to be turned in. All gifts are donated to FFS for distribution to families in our community.

Summer Lunch Program

Contact person: - 214-387-4700 ext 114
and - 214-543-1563

St. Philip’s joins other Frisco churches in assisting Frisco Family Services with their Summer Lunch Program. The program was designed to supply nutrition, physical activity, and learning for their “younger” clients during the summer months and serves kids who typically receive free or reduced lunches during the school year. Volunteers are needed to help plan meals, shop, assemble and distribute lunches, and assist with activities at the lunch program site.

Other outreach opportunities that St. Philip’s participates in that are not part of Frisco Family Services, includes North Texas Food Bank, Prison Ministry and the Seniors Ministry.

Prison Ministry

Contact person: George Lollis - 972-624-8771

Accepting the call to serve in the Prison Ministry is a blessing to so many others. Answering the Lord's call is also a blessing for your life beyond what words can describe. Serving in the Prison Ministry is a life changing experience. The fall of 2007, St. Philip’s began its journey into Prison Ministry through Bill Glass Prison Ministry weekends. We are currently praying and seeking God’s guidance about how to expand this weekend ministry program into more of a discipleship ministry. If you are interested in participating in a weekend or being part of this ministry team, please contact George Lollis.

North Texas Food Bank

Contact person: - 972-527-5777

North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) helps supply member agencies such as Frisco Family Services. On an annual basis, volunteers from St. Philip’s go to the NTFB to sort food items and put together food boxes.

Seniors Ministry

Contact person: - 972-334-9867

The St. Philip’s Seniors Ministry provides fun and companionship through bingo, ice cream socials, fingernail painting, and other events at Victoria Gardens, a local nursing home facility. We visit with those who are bedridden and take Holy Communion to them if requested. Volunteers are needed to assist with bingo, donate prizes, and provide refreshments. Children are welcome to participate in this ministry if they are old enough to assist the seniors in playing bingo or to help with the ice cream socials.

Three "Painless" Ways to Help Others!
St. Philip's Grocery Rewards Programs
Designating St. Philip's as the rewards program benefactor at the grocery store that you shop in, only takes a short time initially, but the St. Philip's Outreach programs will be rewarded again and again over time.  Tom Thumb, Kroger, and Albertson's all have reward card programs that can contribute a minimum of 1% to the charity of your choice. Why not designate St. Philip's as that charity?

How to do it:
Tom Thumb:  Add your Reward Card number to the Tom Thumb list in the narthex or at the church offices.  You can also do it in the store using our group number, #11029.

Kroger:  Obtain a Share Card in the narthex or at the church offices.  They give separate cards from their Kroger Plus cards.  You can use clear tape to attach your Share Card to the back of your Kroger Plus card to keep them together.

Albertson's:  Add your name to the Supporter Registration sheet in the narthex or in the church office or at www.albertsons.com/abs_inthecommunity/. You can attach it to your existing Preferred Savings Card or even order a Preferred Savings Card online.  If you sign up online, go to the Community Partners page to register.  St. Philips' Partner number is 49001004182.

If you have questions, you can contact Julia Chalker at 972-678-0751.  She can answer your questions and will make sure you are signed up to participate in any or all of the programs!
