St. Philip’s is dedicated to helping children and their families discover God’s amazing love, deepen their faith and share His love with others by providing quality Christian educational programs and opportunities for fellowship and service.
The Children & Family Ministry partners with parents to provide tools and encouragement as they strive to pass along their faith at home.
Sundays 9:00 am and 11:15 am
Ages 4 through 2nd grade
Family worship is an important value at St. Philip’s and children are always welcome in the services. To help our youngest members get the most out of their worship experience, we’ve created a Children’s Chapel moment especially for them.
Here’s how it works:
Families gather together for worship at 9:00 am or 11:15 am. During the service, children ages 4 through 2nd grade will be invited to process out to the Children’s Chapel space located in Stanton Commons, St. Philip’s Hall. A member of our clergy will lead children in age-appropriate liturgy through music, prayer and Bible story. Children will rejoin their parents at the beginning of Holy Communion.
Parents who wish for their child to go to Children’s Chapel during the service must check-in at the designated area in the Narthex before the service where the child will receive a name tag for security purposes.
Parent volunteers are needed each week to “shepherd” these young ones and will be scheduled on a 4-6 week rotating basis. Please contact Steffanie Methvin to volunteer or for more information.
Sundays 8:45 am to 12:30 pm
Infants through Pre-K 4
Nursery care is available for infants through Pre-K 4 in the Lein Education Bldg. on Sundays from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm while parents attend worship and 3D Faith Adult Classes. Our professional nursery staff is trained to care for all of your child's needs, including any unlikely emergencies that may arise. In addition to CPR and first aid training, all staff and volunteers have completed a background check and a required child safety course, Safe Church - Safeguarding God's Children.
Sundays at 10:15 am
Pre-K 4 through 5th grade
Sunday School for children who are in Pre K (4 years old by Sept. 1, 2016) and Transitional Kindergarten (5 years old but not entering Kindergarten until the following year) is in the Lein Education Building. Over the course of a year, children will hear, wonder and respond to 36 Bible stories from Genesis to Acts.
Sunday School for children Kindergarten–3rd grade is located in St. Philip’s Hall. Using curriculum that has a two-year scope and sequence of the Bible, children will imagine themselves in God’s Story and wonder about God’s amazing plan for them in the world.
IMPACT is our ministry to 4th and 5th graders. IMPACT is designed to be “like a youth group for 4th and 5th grade students.” IMPACT meets for Sunday School in St. Philip’s Hall. Using a two-year curriculum through the Bible, 4th and 5th graders will marvel at the different aspects of God and begin to understand how they fit in with God’s big story. IMPACT will also have several “extra-curricular” activities throughout the year designed for fellowship and service.
Sparrows is our ministry to special needs children and their families. Children from age 4 through 12th grade meet during the 9:00 am service in St. Philip’s Hall. Sparrows is staffed by experienced and loving volunteers that include Occupational Therapists, Special Needs Counselors and Special Needs Assistants who work in the school district. But you don’t have to be a specialist to work with these special kids—regular folks can help, too, and we’ll provide training! Our Sparrows class enjoys snacks, games, music, arts and crafts and use their senses to explore God’s world.
Children & Family Ministry is dedicated to growing children’s faith in a way that is meaningful and fun. Join one of the largest ministries at St. Philip's to impact our youngest disciples.
Sunday Morning Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for an opportunity to serve, nurture and care for our youngest members? Being a nursery volunteer is for you! Join the children for music and Bible stories, and help them with a take home activity. Volunteers must be ready to have fun!
If you enjoy learning and seeing things through the eyes of children, this is the place for you! Volunteers will assist in checking the children into their classrooms. They will lead the children in Bible story time where together they will imagine and wonder about God. Leading fun activities and games is also included in this opportunity. Volunteers serve in teaching teams that rotate on a two, four or six week basis.
If you love leading kids on a fun exploration of God’s word that includes lots of practical application, you will want to hang out with our 4th and 5th grade students in IMPACT. You can get involved by helping with ongoing service projects, hosting social activities, teaching God’s Word or just hanging out with the kids on Sunday mornings. Volunteers must be willing to periodically attend cool, fun fellowship events such as pool parties, movie nights, and special retreats!
Spend time with precious children who enjoy learning about God. Volunteers are needed to serve on a regular basis alongside a professional in the field of Special Education (either a teacher or an occupational therapist). Training is provided.
