Community Programs

Bright ZoneWe believe that each person is designed with a purpose – a purpose to live our lives for Christ and use our talents and gifts to serve Him and His Kingdom. St. Philip’s has a rich history of serving our community to share the love of Christ.

We are strategically meeting the needs of our neighbors in need, right here in Frisco. We have many opportunities and programs in partnership with Bright Elementary School, Frisco Family Services and various community organizations.

It is our prayer that you take a few moments to explore these opportunities to step outside of the church and become the hands and feet of Jesus.

...And now, Father,

“ send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of
Christ our Lord, To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.”

[Book of Common Prayer, pg 366]

Bright Elementary School Programs

Bright Buddies – Mentoring

St. Philip’s men and women partner with Bright Elementary to mentor at-risk boys and girls. Studies have shown that children with positive adult role models in their lives are more likely to succeed in school and in life and are less likely to get involved in drugs, alcohol, or criminal activity. The mentors spend time with their young friends each week building a positive relationship and making sure the kids know they have a friend. Background checks are required.

Bright Reading Buddies

The Bright Reading program was developed to build one-on-one reading mentor relationships with children at Bright Elementary. Our goal is to help students at Bright feel love and support from a weekly visit with a reading buddy, help build vocabulary and reading comprehension, make reading fun and to improve literacy rates. Background checks are required.

Bright Helpers

We also support the staff at Bright in several different ways. We provide breakfast for them at the beginning of the school year, set up teacher lunches throughout the year, and do something special during teacher appreciation week. Bright will also contact us if they need additional help with things like the book fair or project set up. If you would like to be contacted when we are serving the staff or when a teacher has a specific need, email Rhonda Colgrove.

School year – September through May

Summer Reading Program

The Bright Summer Reading Program was developed to help decrease the amount of learning that is lost over the summer. Join us as we make reading a fun adventure for six weeks throughout the summer. Through reading and discussing stories, journaling, crafts, games and more, we will help the kids continue to build upon the skills they learned throughout the school year. The program is geared toward elementary age kids, but we have also begun a Mom and Me program for toddlers, to help instill a love of reading early in their lives.

June – July

Opportunities to serve
Sign up begins in May. Weekly leaders and volunteers are always needed. We can’t give these kids too much attention! Teachers and retired teachers are a plus to lead, but not necessary!

Frisco Family Services

Back to School Drive

Did you know FISD is home to 5,500 economically disadvantaged students? To help everyone have a great start to a new school year, St. Philip’s fills over 300 backpacks with school supplies which are delivered to Frisco school children. This not only helps the children at Bright Elementary, but all in FISD that are in need of school supplies.

Opportunities to serve
Donations needed! Shopping lists, additional information and a drop-box are made available in July.

Summer Lunch Program

During the school year, all of the children in FISD are assured food for breakfast and lunch. But what do the children that are on free or reduced lunch do during the summer? Frisco Family Services sponsors Summer Lunch Program for these children. Churches throughout the city volunteer a week of their time to prepare lunches, serve and play with the kids. St. Philip’s will sponsor one week of the Summer Lunch Program and pack over 250 lunches per day. The lunches will then be delivered to four different locations.

Opportunities to serve
We need hands to pack lunches, drivers to deliver to the various sites, people to serve and play games with the kids. Sign up in June – July.

Thanksgiving Boxes

The Thanksgiving Box Outreach is a meaningful way to provide a Thanksgiving meal to those in need. In partnership with Frisco Family Services, St. Philip’s commits to supplying 35 meals ($3,500) for families in need in our community each year.

October / November

Opportunities to serve
There are two ways you can help – donate a Kroger gift card, or pick up a list of needed items and help us shop! Information, shopping lists and a drop box are made available at the end of October and during November.

Holiday Store

Imagine how difficult it must be for parents struggling to keep food on the table to face Christmas knowing they are unable to make their children’s wish come true. We can help families in crisis by providing the toys and clothes kids wish for and donating them to a program that gives parents the joy of picking out just the right gifts for their kids. Help us support the Frisco Family Services’ Holiday Store Program by picking up a Christmas Ornament representing a child’s Christmas Wish. You and your family can shop for the item listed and return unwrapped, new items to St. Philip’s in December.

November / December

Opportunities to serve
Additional information, wish lists and a designated drop-off location are made available in November. Extra hands and trucks to load and deliver the gifts to the Holiday Store are always needed. Volunteer to help Frisco Family Services set-up or run the week-long store by emailing their Volunteer Service Manager.

Community Outreach

Faith In Action Day

St. Philip’s unites each year in the spring to reach out into the community through one big day of service. There are opportunities for the whole family to get involved helping others to make a difference as a church without walls.
