Finding the Living
When you’re out and about – at work, or running errands – and you see someone you know, how do you greet them? You probably say “Hi, how are you?” and they respond in the same way. For the very first Christians, the greeting was very different. They greeted one another with the words we use to begin our Easter worship, “Alleluia, Christ is risen!” and the other would respond “The Lord is Risen indeed!” For centuries, Jesus’ resurrection was on the lips of his followers in their everyday lives and conversations. Why? Because the resurrection was their source of inexhaustible joy and unshakeable courage that they needed in their daily lives.
How can we recapture some of that early excitement about Easter? And how can reflecting on Luke’s words help us see how the resurrection can awaken our faith, enable our confidence, and transform our lives?
