Inner Life of Discipleship – God’s Guidance
“What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer”. You probably recognize these lyrics from the hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. I first heard that song when my Grandmother sang it on “Decoration Day”, a day set aside each year around Easter by Bellevue Cemetery near Cheapside, TX, to remember family members who had gone before us. We would bring flowers to decorate the cemetery (adding to the bounty of native bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes), gather in old wooden pews set up especially for the occasion, and reflect – on those whom we had lost, as well as on our own lives. When I remember these times, I am reminded of Psalm 25. What do David’s reflections in this Psalm teach us about being a disciple of Christ?
