Jesus’ Ministry – Heals a Woman
“Straighten up and fly right; slow down Papa don’t you blow your top.” This song made popular by The Andrews sisters rings true in today’s Gospel passage, where Jesus encounters a woman who is bent over. Earlier in this song, they sing about a buzzard who had a “monkey on his back”, trying to get it off.
Have you ever had a “monkey on your back” – carrying a problem you can’t get rid of? Or found yourself bound, or bent over? This applies not only to physical maladies in our lives, but also in spirit. What does it mean to be bent over? What does it mean to be straightened up? And what does it mean to respond to that?
