Jesus’ Stories – The Sower

This summer we’ll be listening to stories Jesus tells his disciples, and his detractors, in the book of Luke (parables). In the parables (meaning “to contrast”), Jesus takes something very concrete and ordinary and compares it to what it means to be one of his followers. Through the parables, Jesus shows how to check to see if we are living in God’s Kingdom, or the kingdom of the world.

The Gospel is a radical and challenging message, both counterintuitive and countercultural. “Lose your life to find your life”. “Give away all that you have to find treasure”. “You’ll have power by serving, not by being served.” That’s not what the world tells us. How do we know if we’re living in God’s Kingdom as a follower of Jesus, or trying to get Him into our kingdom to serve us?
