Joseph Son of David

When we hear the Christmas story, the character of Joseph seems somewhat out of place. The Gospels tell us that God was Jesus’ real father, so what was Joseph doing there? In this “divine drama”, Joseph plays a supporting role to Mary and Jesus’ lead. So why does God call Joseph into this holy family?
