We are all familiar with the story of Jesus’ path to the cross during Holy Week – but one character may have been overlooked. Simon of Cyrene was the man compelled by the Romans to pick up and carry Jesus’ cross – an outsider, who became an insider as he stepped in to play a role in the crucifixion story. Who was Simon and why was he there? And what can we learn from him?
