The First Church – First Time Alone

“All by myself…don’t want to be all by myself…” You’re probably familiar with this smash pop ballad from the 70’s (which has since been covered by many other artists including Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion). The first apostles must have felt much like this right before Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. They were afraid, faced with their “ultimate DIY moment”.

Jesus knew his leaving would bring fear. But he also gave the apostles ways to combat their fear in being “all by themselves”, that we can use in our lives today. Jesus gave them (and us) a command, a commission, and the confidence to go forward. How can you apply these teachings to a “DIY moment” in your life? And what can we learn from the apostles’ example?
