Working Out Our Own Salvation

It’s that time of year when we’re supposed to make resolutions about how we’re going to improve ourselves in the coming year. We’ll lose weight, exercise, be more patient, be a better person going forward. Resolutions are easy to make, but can be difficult – if not impossible – to keep.

The Apostle Paul, in his message to the church at Philippi, told the people to “work out their own salvation”. Can salvation be achieved through our own efforts? What kind of “work” does Paul refer to? How can we, as modern-day Philippians, translate this message into what could be our very most important resolution for the New Year and beyond?
